This trip saw the successful construction of phase one of a women’s only public toilet located in the Edu-Play site. This toilet facility has helped address significant sanitation and safety issues faced by the women of Lakhnu, stimulated the local economy, provided an avenue for cross cultural transfer of knowledge, and allowed students from separate disciplines to work together to successfully design, plan and construct the facility in partnership with the local villagers. Upon completion the toilet facility will feature 3 toilets, a hand pump, and a communal courtyard and washing facility.

The 2015 trip also saw the construction of a platform for a hand pump to protect a heritage well that is of particular cultural significance to the local community. Its aim was also to help reduce flooding and subsequent hygiene issues associated with the flooding of the area, and provide a safe space for local villagers to socialize and undertake daily washing activities.

Another group of students also worked with one family in the village to design and build a family toilet to service a disabled elderly lady suffering from severe arthritis. Another small group of students worked with several households to improve ventilation and lighting problems, installing skylights and screens, helping to address the negative health impacts associated with the circulation of airflow and a lack of light. The designs used by the students in the 2015 trip can now be used as prototypes for future ventilation works in the village.
